Big Questions

  • Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) refers to a wide variety of problems with the heart, structural or electrical, present at birth.

  • Heart defects are the most common type of birth defect, affecting 1 in 100 infants. Most of the time, there is no known cause and usually occur in parents with low risk factors.

  • Most heart abnormalities can be detected at the 20-week anatomy ultrasound scan.

  • We provide specialized training for ultrasound techs to help them recognize more heart defects at the 20-week anatomy scan, giving families and infants the best medical support as early as possible.

WCCHN Boost Up! Pitch Competition

WCCHN presents BoostUp, a pediatric cardiac pitch competition designed to give good ideas a leg up. Innovators and change-makers across Western Canada are invited to ideate and pitch for funding.

Tiny HeartsCan Foundation was one of six (6) finalists competing for one of three $10,000 prizes and won the Audience Vote! This funding allows our team of specialists to provide 14 in-person, hands-on sonographer training days at clinics across Alberta this year.

WeCAN Fetal Heart Screen

Course Objectives (8.5 CME/CPD Credits):
Many people find the fetal heart the most challenging component of the anomaly scan. We want to help you to improve your skills and confidence. A team of experts from Edmonton and Calgary will deliver lectures specifically focused on assessment of fetal heart structure, function and rhythm.

During the workshop, you will be shown examples of normal and abnormal fetal hearts and tips to hone your skills in performing basic fetal heart assessments.

Session recordings ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Everyone is welcome to review the videos and fill out the evaluation at the end to receive CME/CPD Certification.

Recordings will be available for 1 (one) YEAR to review.
